The Association shall be known as “The Tanzania Houston Community”.

MISSION STATEMENT......Discuss

We, the members of the Tanzanite Houston Community, a non-profit organization residing in Houston Metropolitan area, seek an opportunity to promote: unity, education, networking among an extended family of Tanzanians in Houston, and support of each other in times of need and happiness.

OBJECTIVES........Discuss

· To promote mutual understanding among the members of the association and work together as a group for the advancement of Tanzanians.· To promote and project a positive image of Tanzania and her cultural values.· To integrate with other associations and agencies worldwide that share similar objectives.· To support fund-raising for social, academic, cultural and economic activities.· To accurately educate America about Tanzania and vice versa.· To establish assistance programs for Tanzanian members during sickness or death in their families.

ASSOCIATION MEETINGS.....Discuss

i. General Meeting(s)- All members are delegates of the general meeting- The association will hold a general meeting every 4 months.- The leadership may also call additional general meetings, as it deems necessary.- Fifteen percent (15%) of the membership count shall constitute a quorum.ii. Committee Meeting(s)- The President shall convene various leadership meetings, as he/she deems necessary- Leaders of various committees shall convene their various committee meetings, as they deem necessary.iii Elections- Elections for association leadership will be held annually.- Elections for Executive Committee members will be held every 18 months.

REMOVER OF LEADER....Discuss

Any member may seek a leader to be removed.Proposals for removing a leader will be forwarded to the Executive Committee.The Executive Committee will discuss and vote on the proposal and forward it to the next General Meeting. The removal will be voted by members at the General Meeting and will pass by not less than sixty percent (60 %) of members present at the general meeting. The Executive committee will appoint a member to fill the vacant position until the next elections.Proposals to remove a member of the Executive Committee will be forwarded to the Secretary General of the Association so that the proposal is to be put on the agenda of the next general meeting. Members at the General Meeting will vote the removal of an Executive Committee member and the vote will pass by not less than sixty percent(60 %) of members present at the general meeting.

AMANDMENTS TO THE CONST....Discuss

The constitution may be amended whenever members deem necessary. Any proposals for amendment will be forwarded to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will discuss and vote on the amendment proposal and forward it to the next General Meeting. The amendment proposal will be voted by members at the General Meeting and will pass by not less than sixty percent (60 %) of members present at the general meeting.

MEMBERS RIGHTS.....Discuss

Every member has the right to:Vote, Seek position of leadership in the association, Freedom of expression, Ceases his/her membership voluntarily decides to no longer be a member, Participate in association sponsored events per regulations of events, Request books and records of the Association to be available for inspection by any him/her, or his/her agent or attorney, for any proper purpose by giving five days notice.Registration fee and monthly dues, A non-refundable application fee of $ 30 per applicant over the age of 18 years.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE...Discuss

The association may provide moral and financial assistance to members in the event of death to a member or to a member’s relative.- Financial assistance is contingent upon the availability of funds.- The leadership may provide moral assistance in the event of death not involving a member’s relative.Family RelationsFor the purpose of financial assistance in times of death to a member’s relative, a relative shall constitute birth parents or legal guardians, legal spouse and children.The leadership will have the responsibility of determining family relations and confirmation of deaths.
